# How it works: Oversec constantly monitors the text on your screen. When it finds ciphertext, it tries to decrypt it and then displays the decrypted text as an overlay instead of the ciphertext. Rather, you can read text from an input field, encrypt it, and then put the encrypted text back into the input field.

To encrypt text, Oversec displays a button next to an active input field. After you’ve entered the secret text, tapping that button causes Oversec to read the text, encrypt it, and put the encrypted text back in the field. Now it is ready to be sent to the underlying application as usual – the application doesn’t even know that it is sending encrypted data!

Oversec is also a unique way of scrambling encrypted messages. Stores ciphertext in invisible characters (zero width) and allows you to add decoy text to the end. That way, a message will only show, for example, “The sun is shining!” without any visible signs of encryption, while it actually contains a hidden encrypted message.
