It used to be called Sgrouples, now its MeWe offered by Sgrouples Inc. On its homepage its motto is “The World’s Private Communication Network” and “Join the privacy revolution”. The most important thing is privacy and that all the content you post is yours and yours alone. It works like a private group on Facebook.

A year ago, I created a network account for members of my immediate and extended family who are scattered around the world so that we can stay in touch, share photos, recipes, stories and news. No one can access it unless invited by another member.

Facebook was getting a little too toxic with bitter debates about politics and stuff, often pitting a family member against a family member or some unrelated person threatening a family member. We still have Facebook to keep in touch with friends and have political conversations, but the family network I created in MeWe (Sgrouples when I created the account) is a breath of fresh air away from the political garbage and other divisive topics, an “oasis” away from the stress of the world where we can be a family in peace. We can set our own ground rules.

You can create a private network in MeWe for anywhere, whether it is for a family, like mine or a company, a church or almost any organization. Their free service offerings are quite substantial. “For starters, you get our excellent basic service for sharing photos, videos, documents, chat, discussions, voice messages, and more, and up to 8 GB of storage, free.” They make money by offering improved services such as more cloud storage space, and in 2021 they will offer more paid services.

I love MeWe …… it’s different from Facebook, but you get used to the format easily. And it has been great for our family. Check them out, they even have a video tour to watch.
